"Paddle Raiser" Special Appeal: Mark II Ministries
THE NEED
In the United States today, there are 8 million adults who have some form of disability with 67,000 living in Oregon. After high school, services are very limited and hard to find and by age 30, 95% are living in an environment where their family or guardian is their only connection to a social life and 75% are living at home with parents over the age of 70 who they rely on to be their main care giver.
THE MISSION OF MARK II
The mission of Mark 2 Ministries, Inc (referred to as “Mark 2”) is to provide services for adults with intellectual developmental disabilities (referred to as “Friends”) to not be a part of these statistics. Mark 2 strives to give Friends the same opportunities we all want and need: to live in a community of our choosing, to be actively involved in that community and participate in activities we enjoy and have meaningful work. Mark 2 was founded in 2004 as a 501(c) 3 charitable organization and began serving Friends in 2005, For over 20 years, Mark 2 has worked with families, community partners and other organizations to create integrated living and work opportunities. Whether going to the grocery store, post office, bank, doing fun activities, like bowling, visiting State Parks, the Zoo, OMSI, movies, or the beach, etc,. Mark 2 works with each Friend and family to help them achieve their life goals and provides the door-to-door transportation necessary to help them achieve those goals.
THE NEED FOR DOOR-TO-DOOR TRANSPORTATION
In the communities of Canby and Newberg Oregon where our Friends choose to live, there are very limited public transportation options. Mark II Ministries provide transportation for Friends to be picked up from their homes and taken to places they need/want to go. This allows friends to have meaningful involvement in their community. Recognizing this need, Mark 2 provides door to door transportation with a fleet of 7 vehicles that Mark 2 owns, insures, maintains, and operates. Each year, Mark 2 does fundraising to raise approximately 70% of the total cost of operating our fleet of vehicles annually. Our operating costs include: maintenance and repair, tires, insurance, fuel, licensing, and staff to drive the vehicles. In 2025, our operating expenses will be close to $60,000 with $39,000 needed this year to just pay for the cost of insuring our vehicles so that we are able to provide door-to-door transportation. Our goal is to fundraise $42,000 for 2026 in order to have sufficient funds to meet our operating expenses. We are thankful to have the support of the Canby Knights of Columbus as part of the Mark 2 team helping us raise these funds so we can continue to provide door-to-door transportation for our Friends.
