Canby KC Charities - Giving Tuesday Fund Raiser

Our non-profit organization, Canby KC Charities, is partnering with the Canby Knights of Columbus and the Ladies Group at St. Patrick's Church to raise money and collect other key supplies to support The Madonna Center for Life, located in Milwaukie Oregon.   

What is Giving Tuesday?  GivingTuesday began in 2012 and is a special day dedicated to giving back to the causes meaningful to you. Each year, on the Tuesday following US Thanksgiving, people all over the world come together for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity by volunteering and donating.  This is a one-day event, to be held on Tuesday, December 3rd.

This is our first year holding this fund raiser.  We appreciate everything you have done over the years to support our Charity Auction and Crab Dinner, which is coming soon, on February 22nd, 2025.  This has been a challenging year for many non-profit organizations and donations have been lower due to other challenges families are dealing with, such as the economy and inflation.  Even so, we felt we needed to do something special for this organization.

Who is The Madonna Center for Life? 

The Madonna’s Center for Life isn’t what you might think….they are unique! They are NOT a crisis pregnancy center, maternity home, shelter, or drop-in clinic. The parents we serve usually don’t have cars and depend on a good pair of walking shoes and a sturdy stroller to get around. They use public transportation and bum rides from others, whenever possible. These parents have multiple barriers in accessing any types of community resources. This is why they operate as a self-referring “outreach service” intended to fill in the gaps of other providers. Their all-volunteer staff responds to calls for assistance, left on a 24/7 voice mail. They provide essential items for parents to feel greatly relieved just knowing they will have all that is needed for their babies, toddlers and preschoolers.

Their organization upholds a firmly-held belief in the fundamental right to life, from the moment of conception (until natural death). They support LIFE.

They strongly believe everyone deserves equal access to necessities for full human development. And, it is our social responsibility to give urgent help to parents and children – simply because they really need it. For this reason, they do NOT expect parents to participate in counseling sessions, parenting classes or other activities to earn essential items.  If the center cannot provide their needs, they will try to find another organization that can help them get back on their feet and provide for their family.

They provide time-limited support to any parent of any age through pregnancy, labor and delivery and baby care (during prenatal stage and from birth to 6 months old) who cannot afford what is needed to take care of herself and her infant child. (see L.O.V.E Your Baby Opportunity Program).

We give some forms of temporary assistance for parents and their young children who are in urgent need and experiencing a really rough period of interrupted support, i.e. moved to shelter, lost job, became single parent, got sudden custody. (may be eligible for partial support on 1-time basis – see Our Programs)

• Donations by check should be made out to Canby KC Charities and dropped off at St. Patrick's Church Office and labeled GivingTuesday.
